David Frómeta from Eurecat has presented some of the results obtained in the FormPlanet project at the IDDRG 2020 international conference, which has been virtually celebrated on October 26-30, 2020.
David presented the work entitled: “A new tool to evaluate the fracture resistance of thin high strength metal sheets” within the mini symposium: “Local Formability on the Sheared Edge and Edge Cracking for AHSS, GEN3 steel and Aluminum alloys”.

In this presentation, Eurecat introduced the new rapid procedure for fracture toughness testing of high strength metal sheets. The work presented the validation of the new testing procedure in different Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) and its application to understand edge cracking resistance. The results showed the suitability of the method to easily rank the cracking sensitivity of these high strength sheet materials.
The International Deep Drawing Research Group conference was started in the late 1950’s as an organization of national groups devoted to the study of sheet metal forming including forming processes, materials, formability and fracture issues, tooling, tribology and many other interesting aspects of sheet metal forming research and industrial practices.
