Case-study demonstrators from different sectors and metallic alloys have been performed to prove the effectiveness and reliability of a set of advanced testing methodologies for more accurate metals characterisation, non-destructive in-process measurements and modelling approaches developed or optimised under the framework of FormPlanet project, aiming at solving relevant industrial problems in sheet metal forming such as edge-cracking, hydrogen diffusion, delayed fracture, ductility or part performance.
Eight companies in the sheet forming industry have participated as validators, including ArcelorMittal, Arania, Aludium, AP&T, Arçelik, Centro Riserche Fiat (CRF), Estamp and Lamera.
The tests and simulations have been performed by FormPlanet Test Bed Sites – Eurecat, Fraunhofer IWU, COMTES FHT, Lulea University of Technology and University of Pisa / LETOMEC – with the goal to help industrial companies to optimise the production of AHHS, Al-alloys, multi-layer sheets metals and cold rolled steels, as well as predict part and component formability and in-service behaviour.
FormPlanet tests have contributed to improve the manufacturing process of complex parts with high-strength sheet metals for lightweighting solutions and high-performance requirements.
The potential of innovative metal characterisation tests and modelling approaches has been proven in several industrial demonstrators in the automotive, packaging and home appliances sector.
