FormPlanet project coordinator Eurecat has participated in the MetalMadrid Exhibition, which has been celebrated from 17th and 18th of November in IFEMA (Madrid).
On Wednesday 17th, Toni Lara, researcher at Eurecat’s Metallic and Ceramic Unit, participated in the conference to deliver the presentation “Sheet metal forming advanced methodologies for an optimised performance through forming and in service” and explained in more detail the advanced metal characterisation methodologies developed within FormPlanet project to evaluate material properties that could affect the appearance of cracks and behaviour against cyclical loads.
The two methodologies presented included a method to evaluate fracture toughness in thin metal sheets (1-3 mm of thickness), using mechanically notched or fatigue pre-cracked DENT specimens and following fast and affordable methodologies based on the Essential Work of Fracture (EWF), and a novel fatigue test based on damage control, allowing to accurately determine the fatigue limit of materials in a fast, cheap and easy way, using only one specimen.
On the other hand, Begoña Casas, technical project coordinator and researcher of the Metal and Ceramic Materials Unit of Eurecat, also participated in the conference getting in touch with relevant stakeholders in the sheet metal forming industry that could be interested in the different services offered by FormPlanet.
During the conference, FormPlanet digital presentation and video has been displayed and project materials have been distributed to all attendees approaching Eurecat’s booth.
The MetalMadrid Exhibition, which has been celebrated jointly with Composites Madrid and Robomática, is one of the leading events in industrial innovation that every year presents the latest advances, news, opportunities and challenges for the industry sector.
