The CEN Workshop “Innovative testing in support of the sheet metal forming industry” was launched in December 2020, as part of the standardisation activities included in the FormPlanet project, with the participation of 34 attendees from 17 European organisations, including several project partners and representatives from the EC, CEN/CENELEC, and relevant laboratories and companies.
During the Workshop event, the participants had the opportunity to receive and exchange information about two main aspects: the European standardisation system and the general functioning of the CEN Workshops for the development of CEN Workshop Agreements (CWAs), and the FormPlanet CEN WS Project Plan, as the reference document for the works to be developed during the lifetime of the CEN WS.
As a result of the workshop and months of work, two CWAs for the standardisation of novel sheet metal characterisation methodologies were published.
This CWA (CWA 17793:2021) describes the procedure for the evaluation of the plane stress fracture toughness of thin ductile metallic sheets by means of the EWF methodology. The document provides the guidelines for specimen preparation, testing and data post-processing as well as the limitations of the method.
This CWA (CWA 17794:2021) provides a set of guidelines for the measurement of diffusible hydrogen content in steel sheets, that can be susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement phenomenon.
