Sustainability is a growing priority to business approach by requiring constant adaptation for risks and opportunities to creating long-term values, such as healthy ecosystems, productive economies integrating sustainability principles into their organisations.
All manufacturing companies endeavour to achieve excellence, innovation and sustainability in order to attain the highest standard in manufacturing by producing top quality and zero-defect products, being highly efficient in terms of costs and resources with environment compliance without wasting.
Arçelik emphasises that its financial successes can only become permanent through a sustainable business model, since it operates in a dynamic, competitive and constantly transforming sector due to the technological progress and therefore sets integrated business and sustainability goals.
To have an impact on highly efficient production process, we are also improving our manufacturing processes aligned with the Industry 4.0 focus in order to enable the development and implementation of novel zero-defect and sustainable manufacturing. FormPlanet offers advanced testing methodologies for more accurate metals characterisation, modelling for high strength sheet materials for optimization of forming processes and assure defect-free part production.
Optimisation of the clinching forming process through mechanical characterisation tests and Finite Element Modelling
Within the scope of FormPlanet project, Arçelik will carry out processability validation tests of clinching forming process, which is used for connection of wrapper sheets of washing machine drums in order to prove the effectiveness and reliability of the novel testing methodologies.
Left: Not failed clinching process, Right: Failed clinching process
Clinching is the cold joining process in which sheet metals are connected by force-and positive-locking with each other in washing machine drum production. It is well known that the geometry of dies is one of the critical parameters in this kind of cold joining process and defines the quality of performance for stamping process in metal sheet forming.
Washing Machine Clinching Mould
In order to optimise the clinching process, mechanical characterisations of sheet metals and Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations relating depth, pattern distances and curve form of clinching dies have been carrying out, in collaboration with COMTES FHT.
After the optimisation study, optimisation results and outputs will be examined with a Static Explosion Test to compare radial force differences within the validation tests.
