The stepwise modelling method (SMM) is a direct method to characterize the post necking plasticity for sheet metals which is based on full field strain data obtained by tensile testing. Within the FormPlanet project the SMM is extended to enable the post necking characterisation of anisotropic sheet metals as well as for thick sheets. Further a variety of specimen geometries for fracture model calibrations are studied.
For the extension of the stepwise modelling method to enable the evaluation of thick sheet materials and for anisotropic materials, different strategies were developed. A Hill plasticity model is implemented in the numerical SMM tool.
From these strategies a numerical tool was developed and validated. To increase the accuracy of the failure models, new specimen geometries are developed and tested. The results obtained by SMM are essential for the calibration of material models as presented in deliverable D2.3.
